In June of 2023, we brought home two tiny, dirty kittens who had been found near a creek by a fisherman and rescued by Paws Across Pittsburgh. We named them Peanut and Nacho. After some food, love, and care, Nacho quickly thrived and was adopted. But Peanut stayed small, even though he could out-eat every cat in the house. After countless vet visits and bloodwork, we never got real answers. Still, Peanut’s big attitude in his little body made him unforgettable.

In January 2024, on a quiet Sunday, I decided to take updated portraits of my own animals. I didn’t know at the time that the portrait I captured of Peanut that day would be the last. Just two weeks later, he crossed the rainbow bridge after a sudden seizure.

When I finally sat down to look through those images, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. That portrait became one of the most precious things I own—a piece of Peanut I can hold onto forever. His memory isn’t only in my heart; it lives on my wall.
That’s when it truly hit me: portraits aren’t just pictures. They’re heirlooms, reminders, and love preserved. This is why I do what I do—for every family, every pet, every story that deserves to live on beyond the moment.
